Frankie said Relax

I'd like to think that all right minded people were shocked and dismayed by the homophobic attack that took place here in Liverpool last week.

25 years ago the BBC refused to play Frankie's Relax when they realised the lyrics might just be a tad risky. Most of us have grown up a bit since 1984 and even the BBC can play the track without being shocked by its content.

Relax is one of the city's best known No 1s. Maybe as a city Liverpool should take the lead on showing that homophobia cannot be tolerated. If ever there was an anthem that everyone, whatever their preference, could buy into as a statement that the majority will not tolerate these attacks... It has to be Relax. Let's see it back at No 1 again.

Radio City, are you ready to start the campaign?
