Here's an idea I approve of and thanks to Property Week for bringing it to our attention. If Liverpool finds itself with some development sites that are unlikely to see any progress in the near future, the City Council thinks the land should be considered for leisure activities such as parks, gardens and allotments. ![]()

This is not about the Beatles. I actually used that line when trying to explain to someone what Merseymusic was all about. They found it hard to comprehend why a site about Liverpool music was not centred around those cheeky scouse skamps, the fab four. ![]()

We hear today that the Liverpool Culture Company has been replaced with an in-house unit called Culture Liverpool. Cllr Gary Millar, the enterprise and tourism leader, says 'the ultimate goal is to achieve a happier and healthier Liverpool through culture. He also said that within the next few weeks, nine big free participation events will be announced.'
Splendid news indeed. And a very warm welcome to Culture Liverpool from liverpool09. ![]()

Following last year's infestation by spiders, I have to say that I will genuinely miss our eight-legged visitors. ![]()

I attended the 08 thank you party last night at the Arena. A pleasant evening and an opportunity for the city and culture co to thank almost everyone for their contribution to the successful year of culture. ![]()

Heard a rumour that the river festival was not going to happen this year due to financial constraint. Surely that can't be right? Tall ships and shanties are culturally imperative!
Last year's hugely successful festival was one of the most attended events of 2008, bringing countless thousands to the city. Can anyone enlighten us as to the fate of this wonderful festival? ![]()

A good piece in the enjoyengland.com supplement of the Sunday Telegraph yesterday by Chris Moss – and that's his headline not mine – who revisited the city to see if it was maintaining its 08 momentum. An unusual piece of editing saw the last paragraph on the page end mid-sentence so I was left wondering about his conclusion.
The piece covered the generality of culture and history well but didn't really point potential visitors towards sources of information for some of our grass-roots and hidden gems. A pity. ![]()

I went to the Phil the other night and wondered why on earth I don't go more often. Looking around the fabulous auditorium though I couldn't help but notice the average age of the audience. No children! ![]()

It's been announced today that Liverpool city council has approved an £8.45m arts budget which will maintain capital of culture funding levels in the city for the next two years. ![]()

There was good news for fans of the Superlambanana sculpture earlier this month, when a deal was finally struck to ensure that a replica of the 17ft high original will remain in the city. ![]()

What a year we had last year. And when I say we I refer to my family. There was, as the packet stated, something for everyone. One little niggle for me was the ticketing arrangements for the big events such as McCartney's gig at Anfield or the opening event at the arena. ![]()
