Everton head back to Wembley tomorrow for the FA Cup final, hoping to see off the challenge of Chelsea as they look to secure a first piece of silverware since 1995. ![]()

With a sunny weekend in the offing it would seem like a perfect opportunity to stroll around the city's arty venues, particularly those that seem a bit remote when it's drizzling. ![]()

With the cockneys and mancunians sunning themselves in Rome this week it's easy for one's mind to drift into thoughts of a cheeky European city break to recharge the batteries. Perhaps a long week-end where the skies are blue and the café culture is buzzing. ![]()

I talked the other day about the serious issue of lack of short term car parking in the city centre. And the recent refusal by the city council of an application for a temporary, yes temporary, car park in Ropewalks indicates a distinct lack of understanding by the planning authorities about what makes a city tick. ![]()

Just in case there's any new bands who haven't seen the call to arms for the Mathew Street Festival... Check out the Culture Liverpool link where you can download an application form to play on the new band stage. ![]()

The long awaited inquiry into the new Mersey Crossing is underway. At last. And what an opportunity to create one of the wonders of the bridge world this should be. ![]()

Every now and then amidst the daily drudge, you stumble across something that makes you smile and think of the good old days when everything was rosy. ![]()

The other day I had a little rant about the constipation of traffic Southbound along the Strand. As I drove home on Wednesday it was carnage again at 6.30pm as people trying to get to the Arena were gridlocked. An hour or so in a needless queue doesn’t make for a good night out. The state of play is unacceptable, with or without the roadworks. ![]()

That new museum down on the waterfront is starting to look seriously sexy. From Wirral it looks stunning, especially in its juxtaposition with the Three Graces. ![]()

Approaching our fair city from The Rocket I noted yesterday that the old and presumably very expensive 08 signs are still on the flyover it still seems that we are stuck in an 08 timewarp. ![]()

45 minutes to travel 100 metres along The Strand this morning by car from the West Tower to Chapel Street. The sequencing of traffic lights and movement has been catastrophic since the Big Dig completely knackered the Water Street and Strand Junction by not allowing a right turn at the traffic lights. ![]()

Just a quick heads up. Check out www.liverpoolsoundcity.co.uk and spread the word.
Gigs, gigs and more gigs.
It’s our duty to support these ventures! ![]()

This year's Summer Pops at the Arena appears to have attracted an even less exciting line up than usual. A few predictable returns, a few golden oldies and, to my taste, some out and out wasters. ![]()

Liverpool First's plan for the future of the city certainly can't be faulted for it's ambition. Reducing unemployment by creating thousands of jobs, creating safe neighbourhoods and helping to improve the health of people throughout the city are amongst the goals set out in the Liverpool 2024 document.
But the toughest of all to implement may well be to transform Liverpool into one of the cleanest cities in the country. ![]()

Good news to see NWDA launching a high profile marketing campaign for England's North West on the London Underground today. The posters and displays will promote Liverpool, Manchester, Chester and The Lake District. ![]()

Personally I'm not terribly excited about art and culture at the moment – at least not in Liverpool. And that's probably reflected in the downturn in volume here on the 09 site. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to keep enthused when those charged with ensuring some kind of legacy are notable by their absence. ![]()
